Our client has started work on site to widen the M1 motorway near Nottingham following agreement of the contract cost within the Highways Agency’s original budget.
The £340 million project for the Highways Agency will see the M1 widened to create four lanes from junction 25 at Sandiacre to junction 28 near Pinxton in the East Midlands.
Work involves constructing a new lane one and hard shoulder for each carriageway, along approximately 23km of the M1. The works will include the relocation of drainage networks, signs, lighting, and motorway communications plus central reserve works to provide new concrete safety barriers. A total of 19 existing bridge structures will be widened or replaced to accommodate the widened motorway carriageways.
Work is due to be completed in 2010.
