A great opportunity has arisen for a Temporary Works Designer to join a large project in East London, producing Temporary Works designs in line with the design brief and programme requirements.

 

Main duties will include:

 

  • Reviewing and updating the TW schedule to ensure the principal items of temporary works required are identified
  • Reviewing TW2 design briefs and advise any additional information required to progress design. Give feedback on design period required
  • Carrying out TW design and arranging for necessary checks, in line with TW2 brief and current standards
  • Agreeing with the TWC any items of design or checking to be allocated to external consultants
  • Identifying methods of construction and residual risks associated with the TW designs
  • Ensuring that the construction team area aware of procedures, methods, sequences and risks by coaching sessions where necessary.
  • Carrying out duties as an 'alternate' TWC

 

The following items are examples where particular attention should be paid by the TWD:

 

  • Overall stability of any structure at all stages of construction
  • Interfaces between separately designed elements
  • Points of concentrated load
  • Earthworks: selection and interpretation of soil parameters and factors of safety
  • Slopes: overall slip surfaces in founding materials
  • Dewatering: specialist advice should normally be sought especially in the absence of a full pumping test
  • Cofferdams and retaining walls: sequence of construction/excavation
  • Falsework: in accordance BS5975
  • Formwork: with reference to the Concete Society Formwork Guide to Good Practice
  • Major lifting operations: jacking and sliding: specialist advice sought as necessary

 

Regular deliverables will include:

 

  • Assisting in the review of the TW Schedule (TW1)
  • Reviewing the TW Design Brief (TW2)
  • Signing off TW3 permits (TWC duties)
  • TW Designs
  • Site briefings of the Construction Team on TW issues
